Quantième d’une montre : définition et explication

Dans l’univers de l’horlogerie, une complication est une fonction ajoutée sur une montre, autre que l’affichage de l’heure et des minutes. Elles sont particulièrement recherchées et appréciées par les véritables amateurs de montres. Il existe un très grand nombre de complications, comme la fonction GMT, la réserve de marche, le tourbillon, ou encore le quantième… Dans cet article, nous allons aborder le quantième afin de mieux comprendre cette complication, mais aussi de voir les différents types que l’on peut retrouver sur nos montres.
Qu’est-ce que le quantième ?
Le quantième d’une montre correspond à la complication horlogère permettant l’affichage de la date. Le quantième est une fonction très courante et répandue, que l’on distingue sur de nombreuses tocantes. Effectivement, on retrouve fréquemment cette complication horlogère sur les montres modernes. Il existe plusieurs types de quantième ; l’objectif est le même (afficher la date), mais le fonctionnement peut être différent d’une version à l’autre. On retrouve notamment le quantième simple, le quantième annuel, et le quantième perpétuel.
Les différents types de quantième
Le quantième simple
Les montres à quantième simple affichent la date de 1 à 31 (correspondant au nombre de jours dans un mois), et nécessitent un réglage manuel dès lors que le mois comporte moins de 31 jours.
Le quantième annuel
Le quantième annuel est une version améliorée du quantième simple. En effet, les montres disposant de ce type de quantième gèrent de manière automatique les mois à 30 et à 31 jours. C’est-à-dire que le porteur n’a pas à régler manuellement le calendrier de sa montre (excepté pour le mois de février).
Le quantième perpétuel
Le quantième perpétuel est le type de quantième le plus complexe qui existe sur une montre, ce qui le rend très cher et très rare. Il affiche avec précision la date, le jour, le mois et l’année, et prend même en compte l’année bissextile. Il devra toutefois être corrigé en 2100, lorsque l’année bissextile sera ignorée. Ce type de quantième est souvent retrouvé sur les prestigieuses montres tourbillons.
Le quantième instantané
Le quantième dit “instantané“, signifie que le changement de date s’effectue très rapidement vers minuit. Contrairement à certains mécanismes qui peuvent avoir besoin de plusieurs heures pour le changement du quantième.
Le quantième complet
Également appelé “quantième triple”, le quantième complet est un perfectionnement de l’affichage de la date, ajoutant non seulement le jour de la semaine, mais aussi le mois de l’année.
